Malaga has emerged as one of the most sought-after destinations to welcome in the New Year, ranking fourth, according to a report by flight and hotel search engine Jetcost.es. In this fascinating list, Malaga overtakes the country's capital itself, Madrid, being only behind Palma de Mallorca, Alicante and Barcelona.
The trend of taking advantage of the end-of-year festivities to travel is on the rise, according to Jetcost.es, with a 20% increase in flight searches and a 24% increase in hotel searches compared to the previous year. Spain is emerging as a favourite country for Europeans wishing to spend the holidays away from home, attracting with its pleasant climate, rich culture, vibrant festivities, delicious cuisine, and a range of hotels and infrastructure at more affordable prices.
This study analysed flight searches between 26 December 2023 and 4 January 2024.Malaga is the favourite for Dutch travellers, third for German and French travellers, and fourth for British travellers.
Even the Spanish have followed the trend of celebrating New Year's Eve in destinations such as Tenerife, Madrid, Gran Canaria, Barcelona and, of course, Malaga, which has gained the preference of national tourists.
