Malaga's rise in the ranking of cities with the highest quality of life.

Coronated as the best city in the world to live and work in, according to Forbes magazine's coverage of the recent InterNations survey, Malaga stands out as an ideal haven for expats from all over the world.

In this extensive survey of more than 12,000 respondents of 177 different nationalities residing in 181 countries, Malaga emerged as a clear favourite. The city's appeal extends beyond its picturesque setting on the Costa del Sol, encompassing factors such as the friendliness of the locals, a charming climate and an enviable work/life balance.

Spain cemented its status as an ideal expat haven, with Alicante and Valencia also taking second and third place respectively, followed by Madrid in sixth.

Malaga's zenith in the top 20 cities, along with Alicante and Valencia, paints a compelling picture of Spain's enduring allure for expats. As Malaga rejoices in its global recognition, Spain presents itself as an up-and-coming destination, offering a blend of lifestyle, climate and cultural richness that captivates the international community.

This rise in the world rankings, which places Malaga on the podium of the most attractive cities for living and working, underlines a remarkable transformation over the past two decades. The city has not only maintained its attractiveness but has flourished, becoming a benchmark destination for those seeking quality of life and an environment conducive to work and leisure.

The United States, which previously led the table in 2022 with Miami and New York, experienced a notable drop in attractiveness. New York, in particular, fell to 39th place due to high living costs and frenetic pace of life. This change indicates the challenges the nation faces in terms of work-life balance.

Malaga's distinction as the world's best city to live and work in is attributed to an exceptional combination of factors.

Its subtropical climate, which provides mild winters and warm summers, presents itself as an unrivalled attraction.

The hospitality of its residents, perceived safety, ease of sports and vibrant social environment add to the equation.

The quality of the air and the possibility of enjoying a Mediterranean diet all year round have also contributed to its appeal.

In addition, the city has managed to preserve its historical and cultural charm while incorporating modern amenities.

This recognition highlights not only Malaga's present attractiveness, but also its ability to evolve and adapt, making it an unrivalled destination on the global stage.
